Our essential tips to make the most of LA Climate Week!
1. 🏞️ Ground yourself in the natural landscape.
LA is in a heat wave this week, but Climate Week looks cooler, perfect for outdoor fun. There are many hikes and outdoor volunteer activities planned throughout the week, as well as some panels and networking events hosted at regional parks and gardens. Whether you join one of these events or explore nature on your own, take some time to (re)connect with the natural world. You're in a big city, but it's part of an even bigger ecosystem. Just remember your water and sun protection ;)
2. 🫂 Bring a friend to Climate Week.
LA Climate Week is the perfect chance to build and strengthen connections while sharing your passion for climate. Bring a friend or family member to a panel or community event, and plan to carpool or take transit together to cut down on emissions. On the way back, take this opportunity to chat about what you learned or your favorite moments from the event.
3. ⏳ Make space for serendipity.
Leave some open time in your schedule. It might be tricky, especially if you're visiting from outside LA or out of state, but try to stay flexible. You could meet someone who invites you to have a coffee or to attend an event you hadn't planned for. These surprises can really shape your week in unexpected ways.
4. ✋ Ask pressing questions.
Start a conversation! LA Climate Week is about having fun and tackling big issues. Feel free to ask tough questions or share your own experiences with climate change. The more meaningful the discussions, the more we can all learn and achieve together.
5. 🚇 Plan your routes between events.
Greater LA is a sprawling city that stretches for miles, making it tough to navigate, especially during rush hour. As you plan out your Climate Week schedule, be sure to factor in commute times, especially if you are planning to attend events in different areas.
6. 💧Bring your reusable *insert items*.
As climate-conscious citizens, we can cut waste by using reusable bottles, cutlery and containers. Before heading out for an event, double-check that you’ve got your reusable items with you.
7. 🎉 Are you an event organizer? Update your event page with all relevant details.
To improve accessibility, include details about nearby transit stops, parking options, and whether the events have seating or are standing room only. Also, mention if food will be provided or if attendees need to bring anything. Providing questions for attendees to consider can spark creative thinking before and help with connections during the events.
8. 🐥 Are you a parent? Share your passion for climate with your kids!
While many events are for adults, some are great for kids too. Check out the Climate March for Oceans on Saturday, Sept 14 and don’t miss Storytime for Climate at Plant Material on Sunday, Sept 15.
9. ✉️ Follow up with new connections.
LA Climate Week is a great chance to connect with people passionate about climate work across different industries. You’re bound to meet some incredible people doing some fascinating work, so be sure to follow up after the event. Have your LinkedIn QR codes ready to share and send connection requests. Don’t hesitate to ask for email addresses and send a personalized message about what you enjoyed from your conversation. Sharing a relevant connection or article can also keep the conversation going.
10. 🪫 Recharge during Climate Week.
Make time for self-care! Working on climate issues can be mentally and emotionally draining, especially if you're dealing with climate grief and anxiety. Find moments in your busy week to do something nice for yourself. Whether it’s spending time in nature, connecting with a loved one, reading a book unrelated to climate, doing yoga or meditation, creating art, or simply resting—choose what feels rejuvenating to you. During this climate week, we hope you set aside time for what makes you feel refreshed and energized!
Have fun, and take action!
We hope LA Climate Week sparks your climate passion and motivates action. Passion is great, but real progress comes from collective action. Pledge to act on behalf of climate this week and in the weeks and months to come. Whether you join a volunteer event, advocate with local or state officials, start a climate initiative in your workplace or community, or make changes to how you “vote with your dollar”, there are endless ways to make a difference. Carry the energy of LA Climate Week with you to drive both individual and collective action!
