♻️ Annual Coastal Cleanup Day: Saturday, September 21
Save the date for Heal the Bay’s 35th year of Coastal Cleanup Day! Help us reach our goal of removing 2 million pounds of trash in LA County.
Ballona Creek Renaissance strives to Clean, Green, Educate, Advocate, and Beautify the watershed area of Ballona Creek, and is proud to have participated in this annual event through the city of Culver City for over 15 years. As the largest singular global cleanup effort, this event reminds us that we are all connected through our soil, air, and water. With about 450 volunteers, we have diverted up to 3 tons of trash annually from entering Santa Monica Bay! Please join us on Saturday, September 21st from 9-12pm to be part of this great effort.
“I grew up on a free-flowing creek in Michigan and spent hours exploring it. I now live on the Sepulveda Channel. We all love the Ballona Creek but can’t quite connect to it due to channelization. Our cleanup events offer an opportunity to respect our local waterway and share stories of our experiences engaging with the creek.”
- Deborah Gregory, President of Ballona Creek Renaissance

Inequality, trade leakage, and policy constraints complicate the design of effective climate agreements and exacerbate non-cooperation and free-riding tendencies. This study asks whether achieving a globally optimal policy with full participation is attainable when countries can exit climate agreements. The E-axes Forum is an independent nonprofit, nonpartisan research organization on macroeconomic policies and sustainability. Moderator: Conor Walsh, Assistant Professor of Economics, Columbia Business School. Speaker: Thomas Bourany, University of Chicago.

Thanks to the wonderful generosity of fellow myconaut Alice Zhang, she has dried and fired our clay creations in the meantime. Now they are ready for an underglaze of paint. Thanks again to Alice for generously donating a significant amount of clay for us to use, as well as a considerable amount of time to dry and fire the clay sculptures. And thank you to everyone for your donations, we will be collecting donations again to help fund the underglaze paints and painting materials we will be using.

Coastal erosion is a natural phenomenon that appears to be accelerating and presents increasing threats to the use patterns and infrastructure man has established in the coastal zones around the world. While civilization cannot stop the march of nature, contemporary discussions are proposing possible interim solutions that incorporate nature-based actions that may help slow the process of erosion. Surfrider’s Living Shorelines Coordinator, Alex Ferron, will lead the group through a beginner-friendly exploration of the fascinating world of erosion, our ever-changing coasts, and how we might harness natural solutions to help protect and manage our beaches into the future. Eva Via, State Parks Camp Host and talented singer-songwriter will perform during the hosted reception.
