LA Climate Tech: Sept 22 - 30
LA Climate Week Reflections, Sunset Queer Ecology Walk, Climate Circuit Meetup, Electric Vehicle Education, and more.
Hi friends,
On the heels of LA Climate Week and going into NY Climate Week, this month is just filled with points for climate connection, inquiry, and reflection. In the last 2 weeks we asked you, our valued readers, to share some of your thoughts on the inaugural LA Climate Week. And you answered!
One of our favorite reflections highlighted the need for sharing climate stories:
“I enjoyed attending the Healing Lahaina film premiere this past week. A key takeaway from this event was an audience member posing a question that really made me think: "How can we make climate stories not known as 'climate stories' but just stories, as they are already a monumental story of our time?" This made me reflect on how embedded stories in climate change can continue to be, as they reflect challenges we all experience in some shape and form.” - Demitri Fierro, Sustainability Consultant and Climate Writer
And another showcased the power of interactive exhibits and art in furthering environmental awareness:
“I was at the Black Hole Experience- Mobile Immersive Exhibition hosted by Dax DaSilva. The event had the most incredible vegan food and cocktails, hosted by House of Cocotte. The intimate setting laid way to meeting really influential people such as, Dan Thorman himself and Maggie Braid! Shortly after eating dinner we went on to experience an interactive simulation where Dax connected technology and environmental awareness through various sounds, lights and more! I highly recommend this for anyone attending other Climate Tech events in LA. Thank you all so much for making this happen!” - Santiago Flores, Climate Tech Founder & CEO
During our Carbonauts x LA Climate Tech Cities event at Rivian in Venice, we were lucky to connect with many of you in person! We appreciated the breadth and depth of your climate work and interests in topics as varied as sustainable transit, direct air capture, energy efficiency, climate communications, and nature based solutions. It was wonderful to connect, share good energy, and foster the enthusiasm and hope needed to keep up this important work!
Speaking of furthering climate work and connection, here are our top event picks for this week in LA & OC:

Where: The Greek Theater Parking F (2700 North Vermont Avenue Los Angeles, CA 90027)
Join an easy, 2 mile round trip, 250ft elevation change exploration of our local ecosystems through the lens of Queer Ecology - the study of everything in nature that subverts western cultural expectations about how the world *should* work. The natural world does not subscribe to any particular human culture, it just exists as a beautifully diverse tapestry of ways to survive and thrive--individualistic or communal; patriarchal or matriarchal; heterosexual, homosexual, or in the case of most flowers, bisexual. We will observe, share, and learn about nature in ways that reflect our own diversity, and then connect to it on a whole new beautiful level.

As the US Endangered Species Act turned 50 years old, it’s time to ask how the ESA is working for our state’s biodiversity. Please join us as we hear from several leading voices on endangered species listing and recovery to learn, firsthand, what is working best, what is not, and how we can improve conservation actions in the future. Afterwards, join us for refreshments and informal discussions with the speakers and our current La Kretz Center postdoctoral scientists to see the work we’re doing to promote California conservation science.
