LA Compost: Celebrating 10 years!
As a community based non-profit, LA Compost supports a “healthy transition where food is never wasted, but returned to the soil for the next cycle of life.” The achievements of LA Compost over the past ten years are numerous and demonstrate how community composting can mitigate climate change and build community! In 2022 only:
What began as a volunteer run effort collecting food scraps by bike has since grown into a network of over 50 locations where community composting takes place every day across Los Angeles. Over the past ten years, LA Compost has collectively reduced the amount of organic waste reaching landfills, surpassing 5 million pounds. This coming Thursday, celebrate a historic ten years of community composting in Los Angeles and get ready to immerse yourself in a night filled with gratitude, joy, and community!

The California Aquatic Bioassessment Workgroup (CABW) and the California Chapter of the Society of Freshwater Science (SFS) are hosting their joint annual meeting. The event aims to exchange bioassessment and freshwater science information, network, and support science-based policy and natural resource management. Attendees include professionals, policymakers, educators, students, and community members working on freshwater-related issues. In-person registration is available, with remote attendance information to be distributed shortly.
🏢 Energy Decarbonization Blueprint
When: Tue, Nov 7th from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM

Utilizing four case studies, this course explores how to create a new blueprint for energy decarbonization that aligns with the changing electric grid. An overview of energy infrastructure changes that are taking place in the state of California will be provided alongside how these changes impact the types of building systems being considered for a multi-family building, a school, a healthcare project, and an office building. The course will explore the carbon impacts of each case study, both today and in the future as the electric grid continues to decarbonize utilizing expected average carbon emissions for 2030 and 2050. Volunteer Day at the Reverence Project: Join us for a day of community healing and water-saving infrastructure. Join Project Save Our Surf for a beach cleanup event in Los Angeles. Music, refreshments, buckets, and gloves will be provided. There will also be an opportunity to donate to support their environmental efforts and contribute to a collection drive for the homeless.
