This is an exciting week in Los Angeles: the 🎬 Hollywood Climate Summit is back for its 5th edition! Given that climate change affects all aspects of our lifestyles, it’s encouraging to see climate narratives evolving and becoming more integrated into our culture. Meet filmmakers, entertainment and media professionals joined by activists, scientists and climate organizations and take action on climate. It starts tomorrow, don’t miss this 4-day event!

🎬 Hollywood Climate Summit

The Hollywood Climate Summit is an annual conference that creates a community space for thousands of cross-sector entertainment and media professionals to take action on climate. Filmmakers, executives, artists, activists, climate organizations, scientists, and other experts come together for interactive action-oriented programming and networking opportunities. To date, the summit has grown into an international platform to pass the mic to frontline activists, pilot workshops and think tanks, unveil important research, and create direct support systems for climate stories to go mainstream. While the summit is in-person in Los Angeles, participants can register for hybrid workshops, a global livestream, and offer a virtual networking experience.
🏢 Long Beach's Approach to Decarbonization

📖 Algalita Monthly Book Club: Exploring Our Place in Nature

Exploring Our Place in Nature is a free community book club hosted by Algalita available to all in Long Beach and surrounding areas looking to rediscover our place, as humans, in our world ecosystem. Every other month, the group meets in-person at Bel Canto Books in Long Beach, California for a book discussion, activity, and potluck. The intention is to bring the community together, get deep in discussion, and create a safe space for everyone to feel open to contribute to the conversation. The book club will explore a variety of topics including ecology, environmental justice, traditional ecological knowledge, climate change, plastic, and much more.

The US Green Building Council California’s one-hour lecture will help architects, engineers, and construction professionals learn about the new 2024 CALGreen updates, focusing on embodied carbon reduction. It will explain the key changes, such as how to achieve reductions in global warming potential and the options available for compliance. You'll also learn about the necessary steps for documenting and verifying these efforts with a life-cycle assessment. This course is designed to make sure you're ready to meet California's latest building standards clearly and effectively.

Join the LA Food Policy Council for a workshop on water recycling and regional water conservation resources and programs for growers. Learn about a unique, locally developed water recycling system that can support hundreds of waterings. Close out pride month with a bang! Explore California's native plants and ecosystems through the lens of queer ecology with the Theodore Payne Foundation. This seminar consists of an easy hike through the TPF grounds. In the spirit of fostering a safe space for all, participants are encouraged to wear festive gear in whatever colors, flags, regalia, or outward expression they identify with. Afterwards, guests are welcome to stay for an optional gathering in celebration of nature and the LGBTQIA+ community with likeminded friends to debrief on everything we've learned.

The International Passive House Open Days are a great opportunity to learn about Passive House and energy-efficient buildings.
