🌴 Plant Identification Hike
When: Sun, Jan 28th from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM

Engage all your senses in identifying and appreciating the diverse flora around you. This is not your typical plant identification experience! Let's connect to nature like a true naturalist, using all 5 senses - sight, sound, scent, and yes touch and taste (where appropriate). This hike will give you all the tools you need to get to know the wild plants and animals—both native and non—that populate our local environment. By getting to know flora and fauna using different senses you'll not only be able to identify them, but also understand how they change over time, how people impact them for good or for bad, and how we can all become better stewards of the environment around us.
📜 River Session: Poetry and Ecology
When: Sun, Jan 28th from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM
Where: DeForest Park, Chestnut Ave & De Forest Av Long Beach, CA 90805
Our first River Sessions of 2024 will focus upon the emotional impact that the channelized River has upon us, led by poet Nancy Woo, our 2024 Creative Corp collaborator. Co-organized by Nancy Woo and LA River Arts, these sessions are part of a community-led, multi-disciplinary art project that invites participants to reflect upon the LA River, climate change, social justice, and the emotional interconnectivity of these phenomena, culminating in a printed zine and public performance. Participants will learn about river ecosystems and site histories from the perspective of poets, artists, Indigenous Culture Bearers and ecologists. They will then use this creative field research and prompts from the poet Nancy Lynée Woo as inspiration to connect with their own emotional landscapes.
