🌎 Learning and Mending: Settler Colonialism and Anticolonial Futures by Metabolic Studio
When: Tue, Feb 27th from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM
Where: Online
In this series, “Settler Colonialism and Anticolonial Futures,” we will examine settler colonialism in the Americas and its enduring impact. We will explore its origins, its profound effects on Indigenous life and its impacts on the land. Departing from narratives focused solely on damage and dispossession, our approach actively engages in anti-colonial responses, answering Fanon’s powerful assertion that “the settler’s work is to make even dreams of liberty impossible for the native.” Drawing insights from authors like Sandy Grande, Max Liboiron, Davi Kopenawa, and Zoe Todd, our goal is to investigate how Indigenous people and nations resist and challenge prevailing narratives imposed by settler colonialism. This involves actions such as reclaiming Indigenous lands and revitalizing Native knowledge, all with the overarching aim of nurturing flourishing Indigenous futures. This series is curated by Ricardo Duarte, an interdisciplinary scholar of Latin American cultural studies and a Ph.D. candidate currently completing his dissertation at New York University.
