🌌 Project Blue Sky: a two-week experience for design professionals to create climate-positive work (Due March 15)
Climate Designers is producing its second Project Blue Sky session during April 27 – May 13, 2024. “It’s not a conference. It’s better than a retreat. And it’s more than just a design project.” It’s a unique hybrid workshop for design professionals to create climate-positive work. During the off-site, participants will ideate and launch a new climate-focused project that will be inspired by the Cuyama Valley in California. After the off-site, they have a week to finish their project in time for Pitch Day, where they will share their work to design leaders, climate experts, and the rest of the Climate Designers community! Applications for the upcoming Project Blue Sky hybrid workshop are now open, until March 15.

🍃 Understanding Oaks: a Tree Walk and Talk

Join us in the TPF gardens with consulting arborist Alison Lancaster. She’ll guide us through evaluations of some oak trees on the grounds to help us identify and understand: maintenance, such as drought-conscious watering, common structural issues that could make tree or branch failures more likely, oak tree life cycle, including fire adaptation, growth patterns, habitat value, young tree structural pruning versus mature tree safety pruning, non-harmful, native insects that use oaks as habitat, versus destructive, invasive pests that damage oaks, diseases that cause health and structural problems in oaks. This will be a walk-and-talk presentation with time for discussion, so feel free to bring photos and questions about your own oaks at home. A great class for anyone wanting to learn more about this important California keystone species.

TreePeople’s Moonlight Hikes take night owls on a guided exploration of beautiful Coldwater Canyon Park and neighboring Wilacre Park—after hours! So grab a flashlight and join us to experience the beautiful Los Angeles evening skyline and walk under the light of the moon. We welcome hikers of all ages and experience levels to enjoy the outdoors with us in either a Coyote Crawl, Silver Bear Stroll, or Night Owl Prowl. We are thrilled to be partnering with Floating to provide music before the moonlight hikes. Experience the harmony between soundscape and landscape with an inspirational outdoor musical performance. This is the second in a series of River Sessions exploring the emotional impact of the River and the watershed organized and led by Nancy Woo, a poet and creative organizer, known for her profound connection with the natural world. We'll explore a pocket park and traverse the Taylor Yard Bridge. With Mike the Poet, we'll delve into the history of the location. Via prompts and our own insights, we'll craft our own poems and responses to this segment of the River.

In this hands-on soil science class, we will learn basic soil science assessment methods and put our knowledge to work in several areas of Arlington Garden by examining, assessing and documenting the soils underfoot. 🌿 Reading the Weeds
When: Sun, Feb 25th from 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM
Where: Arlington Garden, 275 Arlington Dr, Pasadena, CA 91105
Learn how to read the weeds! In this hands-on botanical workshop taught by Nancy Klehm, participants will learn about the identification and study of individual weed species and communities found on site at Arlington Garden and what they ‘say’ about the place where they are growing: patterns of soil structure and health, hydrology, mineral concentrations and imbalances, and potential contamination. Participants will also learn about edible and medicinal uses of certain weeds as well as which ones make good compost additives.
