UCLA Venture Accelerator 2024 Summer Activate Program
Have an idea for a (climate?) startup but don’t know where to start? Join the summer incubator program that will provide instruction from UCLA Anderson Faculty and Professionals in the LA startup ecosystem. The program is industry agnostic, but primarily focuses on healthcare, cleantech, and tech-enabled businesses. Activate is conducted in-person with hybrid participation available. The USC Dornsife Center for the Political Future and the Wrigley Institute for Environment and Sustainability invites you to join a screening of True False, Hot Cold on Wednesday, April 24 at 7 p.m. in the Albert & Dana Broccoli Theater. This award-winning documentary is centered around climate change, belief, and civil discourse. It was filmed in Utah over the course of one summer in a county where many residents don’t believe in climate change. Instead of focusing on divisions, the documentary offers ideas about building bridges with people who have very different identities and beliefs. This event is in partnership with Bridge Entertainment Labs. A moderated discussion with Ben Stillerman, the documentary’s Director and Producer, will follow the screening.

💰 Investing in Climate Despite Budget Uncertainty

California’s legislative climate champions are going to be tested as this year’s estimated state budget deficit ranges from $38 to $53 billion according to the California State Senate’s Early Action Budget report. As the fifth-largest economy in the world, California must lead on climate investments, but Governor Newsom’s current climate budget proposal includes a whopping $4.7 billion in cuts and deferrals. In this webinar, experts, legislators, and activists will explain the California state budget process and its politics. We’ll also explore why California must preserve climate investments and end tax breaks for the oil and gas industry, as well as discontinue other dead-end infrastructure expenditures like freeway expansion.
