🔥 Wildfire-Ready Workshop

Learn the steps to take to lower your wildfire risk! This interactive workshop will help you create an action plan to protect your home. The Ventura Regional Fire Safe Council has partnered with the Ventura Land Trust to offer this free workshop. This event is open to the public and is suitable for all ages.

Coastal Cleanup Day is the biggest environmental day of action of the year, inspiring millions of volunteers all over the world to make an impact. Here in Los Angeles County, Heal the Bay coordinates Coastal Cleanup Day efforts across more than 50 coastal, inland, dive, and kayak cleanup sites. This year, on September 23, 2023, Heal the Bay will celebrate its 34th year coordinating this amazing event, and we are expecting 7,000 volunteers to participate in LA County alone! Become a Coastal Cleanup Day Site Captain and lead a Heal the Bay Cleanup of your own. Join our next virtual training session!
🎶 Musicals in the Metaverse featuring Urinetown

Join the Santa Monica Mountains Fund for a short, 3 hour focus on native plant volunteer work where you'll learn a little, and help a lot! Meeting at the Rancho Sierra Vista native plant nursery, Propagation Thursdays focus on one or 2 specific plant species every week, and is best suited for folks who are looking to improve their native plant horticultural and growing skills.

Join Crop Swap LA at our new Degnan Microfarm for our first agricultural documentary screening. Showing. Gaining Ground is a documentary about growing food as a vehicle to empower communities and change lives. The film shows the connection between family farmers rejecting big ag and urban activists defying the control of big oil in their community.
🍄 Exploring the Mycoverse 2nd Year Anniversary Potluck w/ Danielle Stevenson

We have a very special guest, local mycologicist Danielle Stevenson, who is leading (quite literally) groundbreaking research in phyto-myco-remediation healing soils of heavy metal polution. She will share her extensive experience and journeys through the many worlds of mycology, from having her own DIY business to being a Radical Mycologist to being to a mycologist in academia.

Angels Gate Cultural Center (AGCC) and the Marine Mammal Care Center (MMCC) are collaborating on monthly Science & Art Workshops! Every first Saturday of the Month. ArtLab will start with a MMCC talk about how watershed health and ocean health helps our sea life thrive. Artist-Teacher Ashton S. 🌿 Bixby Marsh Open House
When: Sat, Sep 2nd from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Where: 24501 S. Figueroa Ave, Carson, CA
Bixby is back! Did you know that in addition to operating wastewater and solid waste facilities, the Sanitation Districts own and maintain a marshland? Yes, it’s true! The Bixby Marshland, a 17-acre marsh, is located to the northwest of the Joint Water Pollution Control Plant near the intersection of Figueroa Street and Sepulveda Boulevard in the City of Carson. The marsh was restored by the Sanitation Districts and reopened to the public in 2009. Now that the marsh has been rejuvenated, a large variety of plants, birds, fish, and animals call the Bixby Marshland home. Bixby Marshland is now open to the public for tours. Our next public open house will be this coming Saturday.

Join Botanist and CalBG Executive Director, Lucinda McDade, as she shares useful ideas, techniques, and tips for getting this fist step of your garden transformation started right. This class is being offered in a hybrid format. Please join us either in-person or through a Zoom webinar!
🦅 Los Cerritos Wetlands Nature Walk : Raptor Ramble
When: Sat, Sep 2nd from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM
Where: Los Cerritos Wetlands, 6720 Pacific Coast Highway Seal Beach, CA 90740
This guided outdoor walking tour is led by environmental educators from Tidal Influence, a local environmental firm that is actively working to restore the wetlands. Our Raptor Ramble nature walk will begin with a brief orientation to the Los Cerritos Wetlands, followed by a stroll through heritage coastal sage scrub and historic dredge spoils while looking for raptors (birds of prey) and other birds that nest in the area. As we pass the salt flats, we may see tiger beetles and coyote tracks while hiking up to the Heron Pointe Cultural trail.
